Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has reportedly dropped a hint that the Old Trafford giants are closely following the progress of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso.

Sporting's Miguel Veloso is wanted by many European clubs.
The 23-year-old Portugal international midfielder can also man the back-line when called upon to do so.

"We know Veloso well, including from the time he played against us," said Phelan, according to The Mirror.

"He is an excellent midfielder, with great potential."

United scouts reportedly watched the former Benfica player in action during his club's Europa League encounter with Everton at Goodison Park.

The midfielder managed to convert a penalty and add some weight to Verde e Brancos' side of the imbalanced equation as they lost 2-1 to the Merseyside club.

It is claimed that the Red Devils are now pondering over a £10 million swoop for Veloso, having already signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from the same club in the past years.
