Robinho - Santos
Manchester City forward Robinho claims he turned down Barcelona before joining Santos on a six-month loan deal.

In a bid to enhance his World Cup selection hopes, Robinho moved to his boyhood club Santos on-loan, but has revealed that he turned down an offer from the reigning European champions first.

The Brazilian forward claims that Barca’s original intentions were to sign him on a permanent deal, an approach which City rebuffed

Speaking to Radio Globo, Robinho said, "I had an offer from Barcelona," reports the Press Association.

"But they wanted to bring me in on a transfer and Manchester City didn't want to sell me.

"Then they wanted me on a loan deal but it wouldn't have been good to take my whole family, look for a house and be there only six months."

The Brazilian striker arrived at the Eastlands for a British record fee of £32.5million, and was a regular feature under former boss Mark Hughes. Nevertheless, Robinho fell out of favour at after sustaining several injuries, and following the dismissal of the Welsh tactician, newly appointed Roberto Mancini allowed the former Real Madrid man to leave the club.
