Japan Defender Maya Yoshida Leaves Nagoya Grampus For VVV Venlo
Another Asian star heads west...
Japan defender Maya Yoshida
has announced that he is to join Dutch club VVV Venlo.
The Nagoya Grampus star has signed a three and a half year contract with the newly-promoted side.
"I have made up my mind to play for VVV to fulfill my dream of making it big in Europe," Yoshida told Nagoya’s official site.
The 21 year-old has risen through the ranks at the Aichi club and realises that it will be tough to leave after playing 71 league games since making his debut in 2007.
''I met many people and learnt a lot these nine years since I joined the junior youth team. I can't imagine myself wearing a shirt that is not red but I decided to move for my dream to play well in Europe."
The Under-23 star will head to the Netherlands in January.
He will become the second Japanese player at the club although Keisuke Honda is reported to be on his way to CSKA Moscow.
