Chelsea are testing Roma's transfer mettle for Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni as they take a gander at him.

Both Sportmediaset.it and The Sun are reporting an interest from the Blues. Toni is desperate to head out of the Allianz Arena in an attempt to spark his World Cup squad chances into life.

The former Palermo and Fiorentina man has made it clear he wants out, but Bayern are only keen on a loan deal. It is said Chelsea have listed Toni as an alternative for Didier Drogba when he heads off to the African Cup of Nations with his native Ivory Coast.

However, Roma are also tracking the striker with Il Corriere Dello Sport reporting he is close to reaching a deal with them.

Toni has expressed a preference to return to Serie A, and his agent Tulio Tinti claimed the Lupi "would be first choice" in light of any developments.
