Manchester City In Shock Bid For Portsmouth Defender Younes Kaboul - Report
The Citizens are looking to raid debt-ridden Portsmouth...
Manchester City are reportedly considering a shock £8 million swoop for Portsmouth defender Younes Kaboul, according to The Sun.
The Eastlands club have had a leaky defence in recent times, conceding nine goals in their last three games. With Joleon Lescott out until mid-February, and Wayne Bridge blowing hot and cold with regard to performances on the pitch, new boss Roberto Mancini is said to be looking at Kaboul as a possible replacement.
The 23-year-old has come into his own at Pompey, following a less than auspicious start to his career in England with Tottenham Hotspur. He has been one of the mainstays of the south coast outfit this season, bagging three goals in 20 appearances.
It is believed that the Fratton Park club may be willing to offload their defender owing to a severe financial crisis, which had previously threatened to send the club into administration.
A source allegedly told the tabloid: "There is firm interest from Manchester City so we shall see how it develops in the next few days."
Pompey are said to owe the west London club a sum of £750,000 over the transfer of Glen Johnson, and it has been speculated that the £8m price tag could come down further if Chelsea play the debt card.
