Bochum’s Thomas Ernst Confesses Interest In Rangers Striker Kris Boyd
The German club are to examine goal-machine Boyd and will weigh up the prospect of making a bid prior to the January transfer window...
Struggling Bundesliga outfit Bochum have confessed that they are keeping an eye on Rangers striker Kris Boyd, with a view to making a move for the former Scotland international in the January transfer window.
With only 15 goals in their 16 league encounters to date, Heiko Herrlich’s side are in desperate need of an injection of talent in attack. They believe that former the Kilmarnock striker could be the man to shoot them away from the relegation zone, where they presently reside in Germany’s top flight.
“Yes, we’re observing him,” athletic director Thomas Ernst told Bild. “His goal ratio is really good!”
The 26-year-old poacher would certainly seem on paper to be a good bet for the beleaguered outfit. He has already struck 12 goals in the Scottish league this season and boasts a formidable record in his four years at Ibrox, scoring 90 goals in just 123 league appearances.
However, Boyd is a striker not without criticism. It has previously been suggested that he only flourishes against the league’s weaker sides. In addition, the €7 million price-tag allegedly placed on his head by the financially-strapped Glasgow outfit may scare off a bid from Bochum.
Equally, though, Rangers’ cash problems could make it easier for the Germans to strike a favourable bargain if the Scottish club’s position has not improved by the early part of 2010.
