Official: Dynamo Kiev & Senegal Defender Pape Diakhate Makes Saint-Etienne Move

Les Verts have swooped to secure the services of the centre-back on a temporary basis. Sainte will hope he is the man to plug the holes in their porous rearguard...

Ligue 1 : Pape Diakhate (Nancy)
Centre-back Pape Diakhate is ready to swap Dynamo Kiev for struggling Ligue 1 outfit Saint-Etienne on a temporary basis, as the Ukrainian club’s official website has stated that a loan move has been completed.

Rumours began to heat up on Thursday that Diakhate, who was allegedly courted by champions Girondins de Bordeaux in the summer before they eventually moved for Michael Ciani, would make the move to the Forez-based outfit.

Though the Ukrainian side have confirmed the deal, les Verts have not yet moved to do likewise, though France Football states that chief executive of the Loire outfit, Vincent Tong-Cuong has been in eastern Europe in an attempt to tie up a deal.

Diakhate has plenty of Ligue 1 experience, having turned out for Nancy from 2001 to 2007. It was at the Lorraine club that he received much of his football education, and it was under their guidance that he broke into the Senegal side at the age of just 20.

Now 25 years old, Diakhate’s career has been stunted by a series of injury problems while with Dynamo. The centre-back, who is also capable of playing on the left hand side of defence, will hope that such issues are behind him as les Verts have been ravaged by problems in their back four this season.

Should the six-month loan deal prove successful, Diakhate, who will not be available to play for his new side until January, can be signed by the French outfit on a permanent basis, though the fee involved is not clear.
