Urawa Reds are, according to reports in Germany, interested in FC Koln’s Wilfried Sanou.

Volker Finke, the German coach of the J-League outfit, has worked with the speedy midfielder at Freiburg, and would like to bring him east ahead of the new Japanese season which kicks off in March.

The Burkino Faso star, a popular figure at the club, has struggled to hold down a place in the starting eleven by the Rhine this season and his contract is set to expire in the summer.

German magazine Kicker reports that Koln are prepared to sell him sooner for a small fee as they look for new midfielders.

"We can talk about this, but Willi isn’t about to force a transfer right now,” the player’s agent Nick Neururer was quoted as saying by the publication.

“It depends on whether Koln would let him go for an acceptable fee. Maybe we could create a good deal for all parties."
