Barcelona are keeping tabs on Tottenham’s prolific striker Jermain Defoe, according to reports stemming from the English press.

The England striker has been in sensational form of late, netting five goals in Spurs’s 9-1 rout of Wigan last weekend, and is hotly tipped to partner Wayne Rooney for England at next summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

His goalscoring exploits have alerted the Blaugrana and The Sunday Express reports that the Spanish giants will enquire about the former West Ham star's availability at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has already netted fifteen goals this season for both club and country, but it is likely that manager Harry Redknapp will rebuff any attempts to lure the forward away from White Hart Lane.

Barcelona purchased Zlatan Ibrahimovic during the summer, but with Thierry Henry’s lack of form so far this season Guardiola is keen to add to his squad and has pinpointed Defoe as the player who can bolster his squad.

Barcelona head into this evening’s clash with Real Madrid with injury concerns surrounding both Ibrahimovic and Lionel Messi.
