Florent Sinama-Pongolle Being Tracked By Bordeaux, Paris Saint-Germain & Lorient

A bevvy of French clubs are interested in the striker, and with game-time restricted in Spain, a move to Le Championnat could be on the cards...

Champions League : Laurent Bonnart (Marseille) vs Florent Sinama Pongolle (Atletico Madrid)
A trio of Ligue 1 clubs are tracking Atletico Madrid forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle, according to Spanish publication AS, which suggested that Lorient may lead the chase for the former Liverpool forward.

The Breton outfit are punching well above their weight in Le Championnat this term, currently lying fourth in the table, just two points shy of leaders Auxerre. Led by the astute tutelage of Christian Gourcuff, father of Yoann, les Merlus already boast a strong offensive unit in the form of Marama Vahirua and Kevin Gameiro, who have helped the team score more goals than every club but Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille and Valenciennes to date this season.

Sinama-Pongolle’s agent is in Lorient on Friday, ostentatiously discussing  a contract extension for Arnaud Le Lan, another of his clients and Merlus full-back. Reports from Spain suggest that the Breton outfit will broach the subject of a potential winter switch for the former Le Havre man.

By no means a big name in the French game and certainly not a team renowned for their financial muscle, Lorient supposedly face competition in the form of champions Girondins de Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain for the 25-year-old’s signature.

Les Girondins have previously been linked with the forward, while PSG have been associated with Johan Audel of Valenciennes, whose game is similar to that of Sinama-Pongolle.

With the World Cup in the summer, Sinama-Pongolle clearly wants to feature more regularly as he is a man with an outside chance of being selected for Raymond Domenech’s squad in South Africa. A move back to France, where he would be more liable to earn minutes, right under the nose of the national team coach, could only help his cause.
