Stuttgart To Move For Olympique Lyonnais’ Sidney Govou – Report
The French international star could be poised for a move to the Bundesliga, as Stuttgart are keen to fill a newly created hole on the right side of their midfield.

Stuttgart’s regular in that area recently suffered torn knee ligaments, and Govou, a seven-time French champion with les Gones, is known to be ready to move on from the Stade Gerland. Last summer he seemed destined for a move to the Premier League, however, that never quite materialised, and when the January transfer window rolled around, Govou contrived to suffer a serious Achilles tendon problem, thereby ruining his chances of a move.
He was expected to make a switch earlier this summer, but no acceptable offers were forthcoming, leading to the player declaring that he was content to stay one further season with Lyon, with whom he has played for his entire career. Indeed, he is now even discussing the possibility of extending his contract with the Rhone Valley outfit by two years.
Handed the captain’s armband for the start of the season by general manager Claude Puel, it is no certainty that the 30-year-old French international will depart. Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Anderlecht could be a big clue to his future – if he plays he will therefore cup tie himself from European competition for this year, decreasing the likelihood of a move to the German giants significantly.
However, France Football notes that Govou is “very uncertain” to play the midweek clash due to an injury acquired in the first half of the weekend’s 1-0 victory over Valenciennes. The midfielder was forced off with hamstring problems in his left leg.
