The Nerazzurri have sounded out the Bavarians over the availability of the Brazilian in case the deal for Carvalho fails to go through. In addition, they are mulling over a bid for Lille prodigy Hazard.

Italian champions Inter are finding it hard to come to an agreement with Premier League giants Chelsea over Portuguese centre-half Ricardo Carvalho, and the Corriere dello Sport today claims the Beneamata directors have made contact with Bayern Munich for Brazil international central defender Lucio.

Jose Mourinho has requested that club officials bring in compatriots Deco and Carvalho from Chelsea, but the Blues are playing hardball and have slapped a €14 million price tag on the pair, which has scared off technical director Marco Branca.

Inter have started looking at alternatives and have set their sights on Lucio, who is at odds with the German powerhouse and could leave the club after five years.

The 31-year-old admitted yesterday he could head for the exit door and it is suggested Inter have already made an initial approach. Reports hint that they could snap him up for a fee of €7-8m.

Meanwhile, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Inter are also pondering a bid for 18-year-old Belgium international attacking midfielder Eden Hazard, who plays for French side Lille.

The Nerazzurri kept a close eye on the fantasista last season, when he made 30 appearances - 13 from the start - and netted four goals, which earned him the Young Player of the Year award in Ligue 1.
