News daily Marca suggests Panathinaikos are lining up a bid for Valencia central defender Carlos Marchena.

Marchena is the latest name to be linked with football away from the Mestalla due to the club's financial problems.

Although team-mate David Villa appears to be the front-running candidate to leave the club, Valencia's determination to hang onto their prized striker may see them doing business for other players.

And according to Marca, Panathinaikos are interested in adding the central defender to their list of summer reinforcements.

Fenerbahce forward Dani Guiza claimed on Sunday he would relish the chance to join Valencia to play alongside Marchena, but his hopes of a reunion with his Spain colleague at club level appear to be receding.
