Report: Milan & Wolfsburg Look To Fiorentina Defender Alessandro Gamberini
The Rossoneri are pondering a move for the Italy international but face competition from Wolfsburg.
According to reports in the Corriere dello Sport, Milan are ready to make a bid for Fiorentina and Italy centre-back Alessandro Gamberini if Alessandro Nesta and Kakhaber Kaladze cannot offer enough guarantees about their availability ahead of next season.
The defensive duo were plagued by fitness problems throughout last season, with Nesta not making even a single appearance after undergoing back surgery, and there are still doubts over their availability for the start of the new campaign.
Gamberini has a €15 million rescission clause in his deal with Fiorentina but there is room to negotiate a transfer fee as the clubs have a solid relationship.
However, the defender is also on the radar of German champions Wolfsburg, who are eager to add experience to their squad to compete in next season’s Champions League.
Gamberini could join Italians Cristian Zaccardo and Andrea Barzagli at the club, with the latter being instrumental in Wolfsburg’s successful bid to win their first league title last term.
Milan have already locked horns with Wolfsburg in recent weeks with the Germans refusing to budge on their stance that star striker Edin Dzeko is not for sale.
