The Viola have been in touch with the Lupi over a loan deal for the wing-back.

With Dutch left-back Royston Drenthe poised to join from Real Madrid, Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino has turned his attention to the right flank, and the Corriere dello Sport claims he has targeted Roma defender Marco Cassetti.

Corvino knows full well the qualities of the 32-year-old and it is suggested Roma will not oppose the move after signing Marco Motta from Udinese on a permanent basis. In addition, Brazilian defender Cicinho is set to return to action for the Lupi following serious injury.

Cassetti has one more year left on his contract with the Eternal City club and would be available on the cheap, but Fiorentina are hoping to sign him on loan with a view to a permanent move next year.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina are set to renew the contract of Manuel Pasqual and could part with Franco Semioli and Juan Vargas, with the former linked to Sampdoria and the latter on the radar of Turkish club Fenerbahce.
