Benfica Eye Real Madrid's Javier Saviola Loan
SL Benfica have made an offer to sign Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola on loan, the player's agent has confirmed.
Saviola has failed to impose himself at Real since
his arrival in the summer of 2007 on a free transfer from Barcelona.
Benfica were already touted as a possible destination for Saviola last summer, but the player's wage demands forced them not to follow up their interest in the player.
The Portuguese club have once again been credited with an interest in Saviola and his representative has now declared that dialogue to take the 27-year-old to the Estadio da Luz has begun.
"Yes, yes, Benfica are negotiating with us and Real Madrid," Diego Queiruga told Record. "We are addressing the matter together and thinking about what is best for the player and for both clubs.
"Javier is not part of Real's plans and Benfica are a club that appeal to him. We are negotiating a loan deal that can please all."
Useful
Queiruga has underlined that Saviola would relish the prospect of playing on a regular basis for a smaller club in order to rejuvenate his stuttering career.
"Javier's intention is to feel useful in football again and to be able to show all his qualities, which delighted Europe when he was at River Plate.
"Benfica could be the ideal club for his rebirth," he concluded.
