Reports: Lucas Neill To Leave West Ham United After Rejecting New Contract Offer
The Australia international defender can move on a free transfer when his present deal expires next month...
According to various reports emanating from the British and Australian media, Lucas Neill is expected to leave West Ham United during the close-season.
The 48-time capped Australia international has, according to The Times, rejected the offer of a new contract worth around £2 million per season.
Apparently, the 31-year-old had been earning between £60,000-£70,000-a-week, totalling in excess of £3m a year.
As well as offering what seems to be reduced terms, it appears that the Hammers were only willing to hand the former Blackburn Rovers and Millwall star a one-year extension.
"For a 31-year-old, a one-year deal is the best they could do," a West Ham source is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
It is claimed that the Irons will not enter into fresh negotiations as they had offered £500,000 more than they initially wanted to, therefore paving the way for the full-back to move on a free transfer this summer.
The Sun writes that Manchester City are favourites to snap him up, while Newcastle United, Olympiakos and Galatasaray are also being mentioned as possible destinations.
