Report: Arsenal Concentrating On Ajax's Vermaelen After Ruling Out Juventus' Chiellini
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has set his sights on Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen...
According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail, Premier League giants Arsenal are keeping tabs on Ajax's Thomas Vermaelen.
It was claimed by The Sunday Mirror last week, that the Gunners have turned their attention to the 23-year-old, after ruling out a move for Juventus' Giorgio Chiellini.
Apparently, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was hoping to take the Italian international to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, but has been told that the player is not for sale.
The French tactician, it is said, will have no more than €14.8 million (£13m) to spend during the close season.
Therefore, Wenger has turned his attention to the 13-time capped Belgium international who, it is thought, will be a cheaper alternative.
Vermaelen could cost the north London based outfit around €8.5m (£7.5m), although there is no figure mentioned in The Daily Mail's report.
Aston Villa were also rumoured to be eyeing the 5ft 11in defender as a replacement for Martin Laursen, but now it is rumoured that he will join Arsenal instead.
