According to a report in the British tabloid The News of the World, Premier League giants Chelsea have identified Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero and Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko as potential replacements for Didier Drogba.
It is thought that 31-year-old Drogba has apologised to the Blues' owner Roman Abramovich for his rant against referee Tom Henning Ovrebo's performance in the aftermath of the Champions League semi-final defeat to Barcelona.
However, it is claimed that the Russian billionaire has decided that it is time for the Ivory Coast international to leave Stamford Bridge, despite the fact that he has recently spoken of his desire to remain with the club beyond this season.
Apparently, the west London outfit are considering bidding for Atletico Madrid's 5ft 7in Aguero, should Drogba depart.
The 20-year-old Argentina international has scored 16 goals in 35 Primera Division appearances this season and could cost up to €57 million (£50m).
Whether the former Independiente star would be willing to leave the Vicente Calderon this summer is not known, especially after he recently dismissed speculation linking him with Barcelona, insisting that he is very happy with Los Colchoneros.
Wolfsburg forward Edin Dzeko may be a more attainable target for Chelsea, although it is likely that they will have to part with around €28.5m (£25m) to land him.
The 6ft 4in 23-year-old helped Die Wolfe clinch the Bundesliga title this year by scoring 25 goals in 31 league games, while his record at international level is also extremely impressive; 12 goals in 17 games for Bosina and Herzegovina.
