Everton & Tottenham Hotspur Target Kim Kallstrom Keeping Options Open

Sources in France suggest that the two English Premier League clubs are watching the Swede closely with a view to making a move for him in the summer.

Despite Olympique Lyonnais’ well publicised travails this season, Kim Kallstrom has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth and as a result could be prepared to make a move away from the Stade Gerland in the summer, with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur monitoring the player closely, according to a report in British tabloid The Daily Star.

When quizzed about the possibility of moving abroad, Kallstrom attempted to remain non-committal. “I will think very soon because a great deal will happen before the end of the season and even after,” he told the press.

Kallstrom has also been linked with a number of French sides, including Toulouse, Lille and former club Stade Rennais. Despite his industrious attitude, it does not appear that he is a priority for general manager Claude Puel to keep next term, although his versatility could be an asset to les Gones.

The Swede has been used frequently at left-back of late, a sign that Fabio Grosso’s time in France is perhaps running short. Kallstrom, who has actually performed relatively well in the role, has stated that he would prefer to play in midfield, in the long-term at least.

“I would prefer to stay as a midfield, but I can adapt,” he confessed.

With Jean Makoun and Jeremy Toulalan occupying the more defensive-minded midfield roles in Lyon’s formation, Kallstrom, who could also feature on the left of midfield or in a slightly more offensive position, is likely to find playing time hard to come by in his preferred position and so the 26-year-old may decide that a move would help kick-start his career once again.

One man he will not have to concern himself with facing competition from is Fabio Santos, who will be released by the club after an outburst at Puel, despite having a year still to run on his deal.
