Sunderland Opt Not To Sign Djibril Cisse From Marseille - Report
The French international striker has not done enough to convince the Black Cats to make his loan spell at the Stadium of Light permanent...
According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail, Premier League club Sunderland have decided against making Djibril Cisse's loan spell permanent.
The 27-year-old is on a season-long loan at the Stadium of Light from French giants Marseille.
It is claimed that a deal had been struck between the two clubs to keep the 37-time capped France international at the Stadium of Light in exchange for €13.5 million (£12m).
However, it is thought that, despite scoring 10 Premier League goals this season, the Mackems have not been entirely convinced with the striker.
Cisse was signed by Sunderland while Roy Keane was in charge, so it could be the case that current manager Ricky Sbragia is not as keen an admirer of the former Liverpool star.
Should the 5ft 11in forward return to the Stade Velodrome in the summer, it is said that the Ligue 1 outfit will put him on the transfer list.
Meanwhile, Sunderland are apparently ready to battle Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of £5m-rated Reading winger Stephen Hunt.
