Ernesto Valverde: Talking About Sevilla Is Disrespectful To Manolo Jimenez
The Olympiakos coach wants all transfer speculation linking him to Sevilla to stop immediately…
Ernesto Valverde has emerged as a frontrunner in recent weeks to replace Manolo Jimenez as Sevilla's coach for next season.
Valverde took over the Olympiakos hot seat just last summer but he has already guided the Greek superpower to the domestic league title. His reward could be a contract extension with the Piraeus outfit but he has admitted that he will only reveal next week whether or not he will stay on. In the meantime, however, he has demanded all transfer speculation be put to bed.“For good or for bad, I will know my future in the next few days,” he told El Correa de Andalucia.
“It’s a sign of disrespect to talk about another team when there’s already a coach there. For me, I never like it when it is done to me and I imagine that Jimenez would not like it either if I were to talk about Sevilla and the possibility of becoming their coach.
“I consider Manolo a friend of mine and it would disrespectful.
“I know there have been a lot of rumours, but I cannot tell you anything. The only thing we can talk about is to praise them for the great season they are having and the excellent work Jimenez has been doing. They are third in the league and they have a real chance of qualifying for the Champions League.”
The 45-year-old also confessed that at this point in time, he has no idea where his future lies.
“Obviously, I am always willing to return to Spain, but it is necessary to evaluate things first and at Olympiakos, I’ve been doing very well,” he explained. “In any case, I will not wait till the conclusion of [La Primera Division] to decide whether or not I stay in Greece.”
