Report: Juventus Join Hunt For Roma Defender Philippe Mexes
Press reports in the peninsula suggest that the Old Lady will challenge Milan to sign the French international next summer.
Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport today suggests that Juventus have targeted Roma central defender Philippe Mexes and are prepared to do battle with Milan, who have allegedly stepped up their chase for Bianconeri hitman Amauri.
There were rumours yesterday that Milan have set their sights on the Brazilian star and are trying to convince him to cut short his adventure in Turin. And Juve now seem set to retaliate by launching a sensational bid for Giallorossi defensive star Mexes, who has long been on Milan’s shopping list.
It is suggested that Juventus have not tapped up the player but made an official approach, which has been appreciated by the Roman officials.
Milan were reportedly ready to lure Mexes to Lombardy last January by offering a considerable amount of money plus the services of Daniele Bonera and Marek Jankulovski. Inter are also said to be in the frame for the French international’s signature.
However, Roma will make a final decision on Mexes at the end of the season. The Frenchman is likely to remain in the Italian capital if Roma qualify for next season’s Champions League.
