South Korea’s 2002 World Cup star has been with the south coast club for a year and is negotiating for an improved contract while conducting discussions with a number of MLS sides at the same time.

The well-travelled striker, who has played in Japan, Italy, Germany and France, is seriously considering a move stateside though he could stay with Busan if the price is right.

“This morning I met Busan,” Ahn’s representative Choi Wol-gyu told Sports Khan.

“After telling the player about Busan’s offer, we will meet again. Busan want to keep the player but their offer is less than expected. Also, it is not easy for Ahn to abandon his idea of educating his children overseas.”

Choi told the newspaper that America could still be an option.

“It’s hard for me to say which American teams are interested but one of them has made a definite offer and 38% of his salary will be tax free. If negotiations go quickly, we could have a decision within this week.”

Busan manager Lee Jung-seok has warned Ahn, who started his K-League career with the club, that times are hard.

“We met the agent and our positions our different. We will meet again but we haven’t set a date,” said Lee.

“The economic situation make things hard for everyone and we are no exception. We are limited in what we can offer Ahn. We also have to consider the other players."
