City Interested In Marseille Left Back?

Manchester City have been linked with yet another player, this time a defender...

Taye Taiwo - Olympique Marseille

Manchester City could be ready to renew their interest in Olympique Marseille's Nigerian international left back Taye Taiwo whent he transfer window reopens in January.

The player is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League and would cost City somewhere in the region of £7 million. The 23-year old has an imposing physique and is equally adept at defending or supporting the attack.

He has experience too, having played over a hundred games for the French club, having joined them four years ago as a replacement for Bixente Lizarazu.

He has also won twenty-six caps and scored seven goals for Nigeria and is a former young African player of the year.

City manager Mark Hughes was tracking the player over the summer when money was much tighter at Eastlands, and his side certainly needs strengthening at left-back. Neither Javier Garrido nor Michael Ball have yet really made the position their own, and Hughes has had to resort to playing Micah Richards in the role with limited success. Richards played there in the two goal defeats to Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers.

Hughes has also been rumoured to be tracking Chelsea's Wayne Bridge and Blackburn Rovers' former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock as he seeks a solution for his defensive woes.

Now that everyone else knows City are loaded with cash, any players that do sign are unlikely to come cheap.
