Defoe Wants Crouch At Pompey
Portsmouth have been linked with a move for their former player, Peter Crouch, and current Pompey striker Jermain Defoe would welcome playing alongside the Liverpool forward at Fratton Park.
Jermain Defoe is keen for Pompey manager Harry Redknapp to sign
Liverpool's Peter Crouch, who has had a frustrating season with the
Reds after manager Rafa Benitez favoured a 4-5-1 system with Fernando
Torres deployed as the lone striker.
England striker Crouch has admitted that he may have to leave Anfield, with regret, in order to maintain his place in the Fabio Capello's national squad.
A move back to Fratton Park, where he scored 18 league goals in only 37 starts for Portsmouth in 2001, is seen as a possibility.
And fellow England striker Defoe, who moved to Pompey himself in January from Tottenham (where Crouch begn his career as a junior) has said he would welcome teaming up with Crouch at club level.
"It would be great if Crouchie came," said Defoe told Setanta Sports. "He is still under contract at Liverpool but we will see.
"I think we can go far next season but we do need a bigger squad."
