Red Star Belgrade Striker Slavko Perovic Targets Domestic Glory

The young attacker has set his sights on the league title...

Young striker Slavko Perovic was widely expected to develop into a class act after making his debut in the Serbian league at the age of 15. However, the forward failed to deliver in the past couple of seasons and was even excluded from Serbia's squad for last summer's UEFA U-21 European Championship.

The 20-year-old has recaptured his best form this season though and Perovic is keen to help Red Star Belgrade to domestic glory again after missing out on the league title the past two seasons.

"I wasn't sure that I could be successful. My coaches from last season didn't count on me, I had doubts, but new coach Vladimir Petrovic explained to me in a simple way that everybody starts from zero. I got a chance, have scored some goals and grown up but with new, much better feelings," Perovic said to uefa.com.

"I'm satisfied with our results so far. We're playing well and my goals are a product of the team spirit. Of course, I am delighted. We've had two bad, trophyless, seasons. Our main target is the title and we will be brave in trying to achieve that.

"Maybe we were a little under-prepared for Europe. I don't think Slavia Prague were better than us, their experience proved decisive. This season we will try to grow as a team, win both domestic titles and I am confident that Zvezda will return much stronger on the European stage next year," he concluded.
