Banja Luka-born centre-back Neven Subotic was involved in an
international tug-of-war between Serbia, Bosnia, and the United States,
but it now sees that the Serbs have won the heart of the Borussia
Dortmund defender.
He was eligible to play for America having moved to the States in 1990 to escape the Yugoslavian civil war, and having represented the country at U-17 and U-20 levels.
There were even rumours of his being called up to the German national side, but FIFA ruled that impossible due to new regulations.
Agencije has reported that Subotic will play for Serbia in their upcoming World Cup qualifier against Romania on March 28.
FIFA approval is, however, still required before the defender can make his Serbia debut.
Subotic had been invited to play in next week's Serbia friendly against Bulgaria in Belgrade, but he opted to stay in Germany with Dortmund to concentrate on his match fitness.
