Serbian midfielder wants his team to fight through their run of poor form with important matches to come both in Serie A and in the Coppa Italia
Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic has urged his team-mates to fight through their slump and defeat Roma in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday evening.
Inter face the Roman side in a two-legged semi-final tie in the Italian Cup, with the first-leg scheduled to be held at the Olimpico in Rome today.
Leonardo’s side are currently in the middle of a disappointing run of results as they fell eight points behind leaders AC Milan in the race for the Serie A title at the weekend and were knocked out of the Champions League from the quarter-final stage by German club Schalke last week.
However, midfielder Stankovic is confident that they can rescue their 2010-11 campaign and told Inter Channel's Zona Mista programme that the Coppa Italia is now extremely important for the club.
"A team that is so used to winning as we are has to bring a trophy home; raising a cup is important to us," said the Serbian.
"There is an element of bad luck in the negative period we've been through in the last two weeks. We can't deny that it's a difficult moment but we have plenty of experience."
Last season Inter won Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League under then coach Jose Mourinho.
