The Rosanero crashed out 2-1 at home to Lega Pro Prima A (Third Division) side Ravenna who stunned the Renzo Barbera. The Sicilian outfit went 2-0 down as Succi fired a brace for his side.

Stefano Colantunono threw on a good formation but his team were not able to overturn the result.

Edison Cavani grabbed a goal to halve the deficit but it wasn’t enough as the third division side held on to cause one of the biggest Coppa Italia upsets.

It’s not what Palermo wanted as just weeks ago, president Maurizio Zamparini spoke about mounting a serious challenge for trophies this term and, in particular, the Coppa Italia.

In the game at Verona, Chievo also tumbled out of the tournament with another shock 2-1 defeat to Padova. Varrichio grabbed a double to end the Flying Donkeys cup run early.

Sergio Pellisier struck for his side but Padova were just too good on the night and they get through to the next round.

The Stadio Bentegodi was stunned as the players walked off to boos and jeers from the crowd.

Lecce were also knocked out by lesser opposition as the Serie A new boys stumbled at home to Serie B side Salernitana.   The Salentini are the other shock exit as Di Napoli ended their dreams of a good cup run this term.

No such problems for Serie A side Bologna who sent Vicenza packing early with a 2-0 win. New signing Marco Di Vaio and Adailton hit the net for the Rossoblu and they qualify for the fourth round.

Catania needed extra time to beat Parma 2-1 in Sicily. The Gialloblu, who were relegated last season, took the home side all the way. It took a double from Paolucci to see the Rossoblu through with Troest getting a consolation for the visitors.

In the other games, Gianni De Biasi’s Torino side beat Brescia 2-1 to push themselves into the fourth round.

Lazio breezed to a comfortable 5-1 triumph over Benevento. It didn’t take long for the Aquilotti to go ahead as a mistake by Cattaneo saw the ball roll into his own net to give the homes side the lead. Meghni grabbed a second for the Biancocelesti before Bueno struck for the Campania based side.

However, it was all Lazio as Delio Rossi’s team made the game secure thanks to a double strike from Goran Pandev and a Christian Manfredini goal.
