Atletico Madrid's Jose Reyes feels Copa del Rey meeting with Real Madrid will allow them to bounce back from Hercules defeat.
Los Colchoneros conceded four first half goals to crash 4-1 against the Alicante side, and the only consolation was the ex-Arsenal man’s neatly taken strike late in the contest.
Reyes addressed the media today to discuss the ramifications of that defeat, and also his anticipation of the cup derby encounter.
He stated: “We have to apologise to the fans. We went three games without conceding apart from Espanyol’s late goal in the Copa del Rey, and I do not know why the team has failed to win yesterday.
“However, if there is ever a good time to play against Real Madrid, now is the time. The team is enraged, and against Madrid we will show the team who we really are.”
Reyes also discussed the award of the 2010 Ballon d’Or to Lionel Messi, adding: “I would have liked it to be given to a Spanish player, but we must recognise that Messi is amazing, and that he deserves it too.”
