Rayo Vallecano Were The Better Team - Athletic Bilbao Coach Joaquin Caparros
Los Leones coach rues missed chances over the two legs...
Going into the second leg at San Mames Los Leones were two goals in arrears and got themselves back into the tie thanks to a goal from Fernando Llorente. The visitors responded through Juan Jose Collantes and when Javi Martinez put Bilbao back in front minutes later, Rayo responded again through Eduard Albacar to secure a 2-2 draw on the night and a 4-2 aggregate win.
Caparros, who guided the Basque side to last year's final, said that his team gave it their best shot but couldn't secure a win.
"We failed to score from some of the many chances we've had in the two games. Today the team has delivered, has given everything, but we have been unfortunate not to get the second goal. Rayo are well organised and were able to win. They have scored more goals and have been the better team," he told a press conference.
"I really like the Copa and we're in Europe thanks to the Copa and we must start looking forward. No one can say that we were not committed."
