thumbnail Hello,

The Nerazzurri splashed out €20 million on the Brazilian on deadline day after the earlier arrival of the full-back, but the club's owner says the deals are just the beginning

Inter president Erick Thohir believes the signings of Hernanes and Danilo D'Ambrosio are just the starting point as they look to return to the elite.

Brazilian Hernanes completed a reported €20 million move from Lazio on a four-and-a-half year deal on transfer deadline day, while full-back D'Ambrosio joined from Torino on Thursday, after his contract at the Turin outfit was due to expire at the end of the season.

Although Inter currently sit 11 points adrift of Napoli, who occupy the final Champions League place in the Serie A table, Thohir believes January's transfer activity will serve as a promising step forward.

"Our goal was to improve our talent base and enhance our ability to compete on and off the pitch, and I believe it has been a good start to the process," he told the club's official website.

"First I would like to state my appreciation for the players who are departing our team.  It was important for us to give them opportunities to play and improve elsewhere, with the hope that they will grow. Perhaps some will re-join us one day.

"I am very excited about our acquisitions of Hernanes and Danilo D'Ambrosio. I believe both players provide us with much needed depth and balance. We welcome them to the Inter family and look forward to their positive contributions on the field and in the locker room.

"We will continue to review all aspects of the club. As we continue this movement in a new direction, I have challenged our organsation to take a long view toward growth and stability, building a new foundation for success on solid ground.

"We firmly believe this approach will strengthen Inter's status as one of the best clubs in the world."
