Conte: Seedorf can become a great coach at AC Milan

The former Italy international does not believe that the Dutchman's lack of experience will prove any hindrance to restoring the Rossoneri to their former glory

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has backed Clarence Seedorf to prove himself "a great coach" at AC Milan.

The Rossoneri made the surprise decision to turn to a man with no previous experience in management, after sacking Massimiliano Allegri on Monday.

However, Conte believes that the 37-year-old Dutchman, who announced his retirement from playing less than 24 hours later in order to return to San Siro as a coach, will prove a shrewd appointment.

"The choice of Clarence Seedorf is a strong one by Milan," the Bianconeri boss told reporters on Friday. "Seedorf is a champion who has won a lot during his career and he knows Milan's environment perfectly.

"It's true that he doesn't have any experience as a coach, but knowing Clarence as an opponent - both as a player and as a coach - I think he has everything that is needed to become a great coach.

"However, I always say, and I said it on the day I was presented as Juventus coach when they asked me if I was happy about being fifth- or sixth-choice for the job, it doesn't matter where you start, all that matters is where you get to and what you achieve along the way."

Milan currently sit 11th in Serie A, a staggering 30 points behind leaders Juventus.
