thumbnail Hello,

The San Siro coach has been under scrutiny for much of the season - do you think he deserves to be replaced if his side fail to beat Chievo?

POLL

Speculation over the coaching situation at AC Milan has taken a fresh turn with reports in Italy suggesting Massimiliano Allegri will be sacked if his side fail to beat Chievo.

The San Siro giants have had a disappointing start to the new Serie A season, having won just three of 11 domestic games so far and sitting well down the table in 11th place – a massive 19 points behind early leaders Roma.

Allegri said last Saturday’s 2-0 loss at home to Fiorentina was the worst defeat of his time in charge of the club and pressure is growing on his position, but he has repeatedly said he is confident in his ability to turn things around.

Former players Clarence Seedorf and Filippo Inzaghi have been mentioned amongst the candidates Milan could appoint to replace him, as well as current Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.

After a disastrous start to the campaign, it is suggested Inzaghi is now primed to take over if Milan fail to beat Chievo in their away game on Sunday.

Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani insists the club’s intention is to stick with their coach for the time being, but did counter that by saying no boss is immune from the pressure to get results.

Allegri’s time at Milan has not been all bad. After joining from Cagliari ahead of the 2010-11 campaign, he guided the club to the Scudetto in his first season – their first since 2004.

The Rossoneri were runners-up to Juventus in his second season and reached the Champions League quarter-finals but then had to deal with the departure of a number of key players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva to Paris Saint-Germain.

Last season his position was reportedly under threat after a similarly poor start, but he earned a reprieve after his side beat Fiorentina to third-place and Serie A’s final Champions League spot in dramatic fashion on the last day of the season.
