The Nerazzurri boss has made it clear that he will take things slowly with the Argentine, while adding that Mateo Kovacic remains a key figure
The Argentina attacker made his comeback after spending seven months on the sidelines with an Achilles injury in last weekend's 7-0 win over Sassuolo and celebrated his return with two well-taken goals.
Nevertheless, Mazzarri has made it clear that the 34-year-old is unlikely to feature from the start against Fiorentina on Thursday.
"Diego hasn't got 90 minutes in him yet and you mustn't rush these things," Mazzarri stated at a press conference.
"He needs to be eased back in slowly."
Mazzarri then went on to discuss the situation of Mateo Kovacic at Inter and stressed that the young midfielder remains an important first team member.
"We have a big squad and that's the way of the modern game, but players are important even when they only play a portion of the match.
"Just because a player doesn't start doesn't mean he's not good. And of course Mateo's spell on the sidelines set him back a bit. Players of his quality will always find space."
