The midfielder is adamant the Viola have done more to earn the right to the final Champions League spot this season

Borja Valero believes Fiorentina deserve to finish in Serie A's third and final Champions League place more so than current occupants AC Milan.

The Viola go into their weekend clash with Pescara knowing that a victory over the basement boys coupled with the Rossoneri failing to secure three points against Siena would see the Tuscans qualify for next season's edition of Europe's elite club tournament.

Valero, who has played an instrumental role in Fiorentina's charge towards the top-three places in Serie A this term following his transfer from Villarreal last summer, insists his side have shown enough potential to warrant the prized spot by adopting a brand of football similar to that of Barcelona.

"We have to do our job by winning in Pescara, then we'll see," the midfielder told Sport Mediaset. "We have had a sensational season, and we are still fighting for the Champions League. Milan also did well, but I think we deserve third place more than them.

"This year I've had so much fun, When I arrived I thought it would be difficult to play here, but as soon as I started I found myself very well at Fiorentina and I hope to win something here.

"I do not want to talk about [links with Real Madrid]. The only truth is that I still have many years left on my contract here. Speaking of Spain, we are the team that resembles Barcelona the most in Italy.

Fiorentina
coach Vincenzo Montella, meanwhile, urged his players to approach their trip to Pescara with the sole aim of delivering Champions League football to their fans next season, despite Milan remaining in control of their destiny.

"Our goal is not to have any regrets [come the end of the season]. We must go to Pescara and win. I still believe in securing a Champions League place because in football you can never take anything for granted," he said at a press conference.

"I lost
a title [with Roma] in 2002 when we drew 2-2 with Venezia who were already relegated. If Milan were to also draw and we did not win, that would ruin my summer holidays.

"Fiorentina and Milan are two teams that have little in common, thanks to the excellent work of the Rossoneri coach [Massimiliano] Allegri who knows how to get out of a difficult situation.

"We, on the other hand, have performed consistently. For sure, both teams deserve to claim third place."
