De Jong: I want to be fit for the Champions League final
The former Manchester City midfielder is on his way back after an Achilles injury, and has set his sights on a big stage return
AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong has not given up hope of making his comeback this season as he dreams of featuring in this year's Champions League final. The Netherlands international is currently recovering from a serious Achilles injury, but Milan's 2-0 win over Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie has got De Jong dreaming of a return this term.
"I want to be fit for next season or for the final of the Champions League. Let's see what I can do even if this season seems finished for me," De Jong was quoted as saying on the Milan website.
"I am very happy, even if I have been out for almost three months. There are still two or three months to go but I am happy with the progress I have made and the fact that I am already walking.
"Now I have to build up the muscles and this will take a little time. It is a matter of getting fit because mentally I am fine and I am happy to be back at Milanello and training in the gym."
De Jong has made 12 Serie A appearances for Milan so far, scoring once in the process.
