Zamparini: I'm the most desperate man in Italy
The Palermo president admitted that bringing Gian Piero Gasperini back to the club just 19 days after sacking him was the act of someone who would do anything to keep the team up
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has labelled himself as "the most desperate man in Italy" after hiring coach Gian Piero Gasperini just 19 days after sacking him from the same role. The Rosanero are currently bottom of Serie A and six points from safety, and Zamaparini admitted that the club's situation meant he may not have made the most well-informed choice in bringing Gasperini back.
"At the moment I am the most desperate man in Italy and these situations force you to make desperate choices," he told Radio 2.
The 71-year-old also responded to comments made by his Lazio counterpart Claudio Lotito that the decision to hire Gasperini was not looking towards the future but was a short-term measure.
But Zamparini disregarded the comments, adding: "I want to do everything in life, except take lessons from Lotito, that I can be sure of. How would I define him? Amusing."
