Mauri targets Juventus scalp on way to Coppa Italia final

The experienced campaigner is eagerly anticipating this week's cup encounter and is determined to make it to the final

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri has set his sights on reaching the Coppa Italia final at the expense of Juventus ahead of Tuesday's semi-final encounter.

The Stadio Olimpico side held the Bianconeri to a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week, and Mauri is determined to seal the deal in the return fixture.

"The Juve game is worth a great deal. It’s important to get to the Coppa Italia final. We’ve overcome every hurdle with ease so far, aside from the Siena game," the 33-year-old said to reporters.

"We’ve won the trophy in the past and it’s something we want to do again. It would represent a special feeling, for us and for the entire city."

Mauri then went on to stress that the congested calendar does not make it easy for Lazio, but feels they're up for the task.

"It’s not easy playing every three days, because you’re never able to work to your full capacity. Having said that, we’ve had a good opportunity to recharge our batteries over the holidays."

Tuesday's second leg is scheduled to kick off at 20:45CET.
