Ruud Gullit backs Kevin-Prince Boateng's 'statement' against racism
By Rob Salisbury

The former AC Milan star says the Ghanaian was right to storm off the pitch and demonstrate that referees were incapable of preventing racial abuse
Former AC Milan star Ruud Gullit believes that Kevin-Prince Boateng was right to walk off the pitch during Thursday's mid-season friendly match with Pro Patria after being racially abused. The 25-year-old kicked the ball into the crowd after 25 minutes of being targeted prejudiced chants from opposition fans, and the match was subsequently abandoned.
Ex-Rossoneri star Clarence Seedorf was quick to criticise the Ghanaian's behaviour, but Gullit has now applauded the statement made by the player.
"His actions deserve nothing but respect. Finally, there is somebody who does something instead of just talking. He noticed that referees and rules don't work against racism," he wrote in his column in De Telegraaf.
"He made a statement according by the laws of the street and didn't accept this kind of behaviour any longer. With one action, he made clear that the past 40 years didn't have a result in the war against racism.
"When you have to wait for the politics to do something, you can wait for a long time. His action made everybody aware of the situation."
Milan get back to competitive action after the winter break when they host Siena on Sunday at 15:00CET.
