Zanetti keen to prolong Inter career
By Alec Fenn
Jan 2, 2013 9:23:00 AM
The 39-year-old has spent 17 seasons at San Siro but has no intention of hanging up his boots just yet, while tipping his side to bring in midfield reinforcements
Inter veteran Javier Zanetti says he is keen to stay at the club for one more season. The 39-year-old will turn 40 next August, but despite his advancing years and having already clocked up 17 years at San Siro, the Argentine has no plans to bring the curtain down on his playing days just yet.
"It is my intention to keep on playing and the club want to go in the same direction," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I made my decision during the period of 10 consecutive victories. People kept telling me I should not quit if I was still useful and that made up my mind."
And with the January transfer window looming large on the horizon, Zanetti believes midfield reinforcements could help his side, with the Nerazzurri being linked with a number of targets.
"A midfielder can make us comfortable and [Ezequiel] Schelotto would be a positive move, as well as one that gives us a change of pace," he added.
"Dealing with Atalanta may be easier than with the Corinthians, because I'm not sure they will sell Paulinho before the end of the season."
