The Lupi have now won four league games in a row and have risen to fourth in the table after a 4-2 victory over Fiorentina on Saturday.
The Czech coach appeared upbeat about his side's chances for this campaign when speaking after the win.
"I have always said that this group of players is competitive," the 65-year-old trainer was quoted as saying by Corriere dello Sport.
"We want to be on the top of the league and try to claw back those teams that are ahead of us now.
"We hope to catch them one by one. But it's better to keep quiet and keep going. Nobody gives you anything for free."
Roma clinched a decisive win against the Viola in what proved to be an exciting fixture, with Francesco Totti scoring twice in the first half to inspire his side to victory.
And the club captain spoke of his belief that the team can continue to build on their impressive run, telling Gazzetta dello Sport: "It is normal [to be criticised] when there are poor results."
The 36-year-old Italian continued: "Lately, however, we are doing what the coach wants and you see the results. Now we are all united and understand our goals. We are a happy group, a team that is at its best with the weapons of confidence and mutual support.
"Now we have to continue staying united," he added.
