Ahead of their clash with the Viola, the Czech coach has admitted he has been shocked by how well his opponents have performed, and will not take their threat lightly on SaturdayRoma boss Zdenek Zeman believes Fiorentina have caught everyone by surprise with their impressive start to the Serie A campaign.
The Viola sit fourth in the league table and Vincenzo Montella's side are three points ahead of sixth-placed Giallorossi before they clash on Saturday.
And, given that Fiorentina finished 13th last season, the 65-year-old admits he was not expecting them to challenge for the European places like they have been so far.
"The match against Fiorentina is a game against a side who are performing very well, just like us. They have a similar approach and have had similar results. I hope it's a good game of football," Zeman told reporters.
"La Viola play good stuff, they attack, they take the game to their opponents, and are the surprise package this term just like Catania last season, who albeit played a different system."
The Giallorossi coach was keen to point out the danger of the visitors from dead ball situations and highlighted it as a potential problem for his side.
He added: "What do I fear from them? Fiorentina are a team which have scored goals from set-pieces and they create a lot of chances. They work on that and they can cause a lot of problems from set-plays."
Zeman also revealed that he would have Erik Lamela and Rodrigo Taddei back in contention for a starting place, as both players return from injury.
He said: "Lamela and Taddei were back with the group, and they had been out previously: they're available for selection even if they're not 100 per cent.
"Does my Roma side have room for improvement? I really believe so but it ultimately comes down to how much desire we have, how much we want to improve."
