Prandelli: Fiorentina have been a revelation
The Italy boss, who used to coach the Viola, has shared his surprise about the club's good performances this season, and discussed Federico Marchetti's chances in future squads
Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has branded Fiorentina's good start to the Serie A season a revelation. The coach was in charge of the Tuscany side from 2005 until 2010, and is pleased with the Viola's current third-place position in the league table.
The 55-year old believes that they can build on their recent fortunes and can push on to achieve great things this campaign.
"[Vicenzo] Montella's team have been the revelation of the season," Prandelli told Gazzetta.it.
"I do not like to speak about specific clubs because I do not want to disturb anyone, but I can say that Fiorentina can go far this season."
Prandelli was also asked about the possibility of Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti - who performed excellently for the Biancocelesti on Saturday night against Juventus, helping them keep a clean sheet and earn an away draw - being called up to the Azzurri squad for future fixtures.
He responded: "Right now we have four goalkeepers higher in the pecking order. [Gianluigi] Buffon, [Salvatore] Sirigu, [Emiliano] Viviano and [Morgan] De Sanctis, in no particular order, are our four most important goalkeepers.
"Marchetti is a goalkeeper who we are keeping an eye on and I can assure you that there has never been a squad in which we have not considered him.
"We cannot predict the future squads so we will have to see what the happens, but obviously we are keeping an eye Marchetti."
