Mazzarri: Napoli not Scudetto contenders
The 51-year-old is not too surprised that his side have fallen behind in the title race as he believes they're not among the favourites for the Italian top flight
Walter Mazzarri does not think Napoli can challenge Juventus and Inter for the Serie A title this term, and that expectations before the start of the season were too high. The Partenopei were by many seen as one of the dark horses for the Scudetto, but their coach has insisted that the title is out of their reach.
"During the summer, our fans were made to believe that we were among the favourites to win the title, but I don't really know why to be honest," he told Tuttosport.
"The fans are now disappointed because of the high expectations that were created ahead of the season.
"However, we are doing better than last campaign at this stage in terms of points collected, which shows that the team has a good spirit."
Napoli currently sit third in the Serie A table with 23 points from 11 games, trailing leaders Juventus by five points.
