Atalanta deserved to beat AC Milan, says Cigarini

The 26-year-old scored the only goal of the game as the Orobici claimed a 1-0 win at San Siro, and feels his side's mental strength was the key to victory
Luca Cigarini believes that his Atalanta team-mates' superior mentality helped them to their 1-0 away win against AC Milan on Saturday.

The midfielder's 64th minute strike was enough for the minnows to pick up first win of the season against a Rossoneri team currently still looking for their first home victory the term.

And the former Italy Under-21 international was also full of praise for his beleaguered opponents, despite asserting that deserved all three points.

"It was a well-fought, beautiful game. Both teams could have won," he told the Corriere dello Sport.

"We won because of our mental point of view. I think Milan played a great game. They had one or two clear scoring chances, but we were disciplined, and therefore deserved the win."

AC Milan's next game is against Anderlecht at San Siro as the Rossoneri kick off their Champions League campaign.
