Napoli youngster Lorenzo Insigne has received a shock phone call from Alessandro Del Piero, after the Partenopei forward admitted the former Juventus man was his footballing idol.
The 21-year-old was unexpectedly called up to the Italian national team last week for the World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Malta, and then revealed that the Sydney FC striker was his hero as a child.
On hearing this news, the ex-Bianconeri man contacted Insigne, congratulating him on his burgeoning career, and promising him a signed Juve shirt.
“Alex is a true gentleman,” the player's agent, Fabio Andreotti, told Radio CRC. “A man of great humanity, with style and humility.
“Alex countered Insigne's affection with a great gesture. It was a good deed, done for the benefit of a youngster.”
