Juventus pipped Siena to Bendtner signature, says Antonelli

The Danish international was close to moving to Stadio Artemi Franchi before the Serie A Champions made their late move for the striker on Friday
Siena sporting director Stefano Antonelli has revealed that Nicklas Bendtner was set to sign for the club before a last ditch bid from Juventus.

The 24-year old striker had a medical in Turin on Friday ahead of a move to the Old Lady, but according to Antonelli it could all have unfolded very differently but for a late twist of fate.

"It seemed an impossible operation, but we had an agreement with Arsenal and with the player," he told Sky Sports Italia:

"It seemed like a dream, but, at one point, it looked as if we had him. The interest from Juventus changed the scenario, [however]."

Despite seeing the striker commit to a move to Juventus, Antonelli praised the player's professionalism.

“Having chosen Juve, he still phoned our president out of respect. He, and his agent, behaved in the right way," he added.
