Maicon could stay at Inter, says Moratti

The experienced defender appeared to be on his way out of the Giuseppe Meazza side, with a host of clubs reportedly chasing him, but could now stay put after all
Inter president Massimo Moratti has made it clear that it is by no means a certainty just yet that Maicon will leave the club this summer.

The Brazil international is continually being linked with a move away from the Nerazzurri, and his agent revealed last week that Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid have all shown an interest in signing the right-back.

However, even though a transfer seemed to be close after Maicon was left out of Inter's squad for their Serie A opener against Pescara, he could now stay put after all.

"Maicon? We'll see what happens. He could very well stay here," Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Inter chief then went on to praise new arrival Antonio Cassano in the wake of his debut in the 3-0 win over Pescara.

"I liked him a lot against Pescara. He showed the right spirit and put in an intelligent performance. He was all about the team. Let's hope he can keep this up."

Inter are currently preparing for the second leg of their Europa League play-off against Vaslui on Thursday.
